Welcome to Midnight Gamer!

My name is Chris Hyde, and I’m passionate about writing and gaming. I’ve written for a few gaming websites before, but have decided to take the plunge and create my own space where I can write (and maybe include video content) for myself, that hopefully you will enjoy, and it can grow. My gaming background from when I was very young has revolved around Nintendo (cue the fanboy remarks, I know! :)) but as I’ve got older I’ve embraced more gaming options particularly through the PS3 and PS4.

The name Midnight Gamer comes from the idea that whilst a lot of us enjoy gaming, it’s rarely something that is conducive to a regular pattern of 9 to 5 play. A few people are privileged to play in this way, but for me (and I’m sure many like me) gaming is a hobby which naturally comes after a full time job and family commitments. Not least the birth of my beautiful baby girl last year has put a fresh perspective on my priorities, and the place for gaming in my life.

And so yes gaming can be relegated to the midnight hours to fit in with everything else, but what’s important to me at least is still maintaining that passion for games that have been a part of my life for over a quarter of a century. And so Midnight Gamer is a way for me to share that passion and enthusiasm with you.

The intention is for this site to consist of reviews and opinion articles as opposed to news. As a Midnight Gamer, it is unlikely I’ll be as abreast of current news in the moment as required to maintain a gaming news site. But that should be offset by the personal perspective opinion pieces provide. I also intend to dabble in video, likely in the form of mini guides or gameplay pieces, and like this whole venture, I’m sure things will evolve over time to suit both me and you.
